Long-term cooperation for challenging stage play production

For the epic 3 hours monologue stage play "MIRANDOT", the dramatist, writer and director Ugovsky-Strassburger (son of Berlin theater manager and director Helmut Straßburger) teamed up with Make Up and SFX artist Jenny Wieland to work not only on special preparations and tools worked with on stage, but also for an uncommon production workflow, where the SFX artist plays  a leading role in the production department and unit management covering parts of the work of a producer and production manager.

The play, which has been already briefly discussed for staging on Berlin theaters years ago, have been put on hold for last years regarding the challenge for the actor to play this massive and exhausting role for 3 hours on stage. Many interested actors tried and gave up on this very pleasing philosophical play, which would surely move an actor a level up when premiered successfully.

Over a decade the director and writer of the play has conceptually reconsidered and thought over how to move on and the directors idea to probably shoot it like film but still in a way like a stage play aroused from there. In co-production with his film production company MAURSEGLER film, a stage play wrapping technical film production concept has been build around it to finally make it an art film.

A special location was required and in the year before Corona became a global pandemic issue  it has been located at a huge historical ancient farm in the middle of nature in nowhere with huge traditional reed thatched farm houses and wood surrounded by a stream near the North Sea Coast. A provisional photo/film studio and a recording and mastering studio has been build inside to have all stages of work inhouse from preproduction to film shooting and theater score recordings with orchestra and choir and post production from color grading to film editing. STUDIO ATELIER NORD was born...

To prevent idle times when not been worked on the stage play, the studios have been used for multiple other projects in between. So the foley and sound design to support a friends film project "Every first Sunday" (D: Urte Alfs, aired on multiple film festivals) have been edited, mixed and mastered in this studio and multiple other photo and film projects have been worked on  in the studios in the last years, including several orchestra film score compositions and film editing.

Due to the vastness and the large number of houses and guest houses and the possibilities on such an old farm, there is also enough space, time and peace for workshops and preparation offices in which concepts for masks and SFX elements can be developed and expanded in detail, while actor rehearsals and orchestra recordings take place in other houses. Never before has there been such a comprehensive site and development  terrain for a project of this kind.
