Yagmur Gedächtnisstiftung

The Yagmur Memorial Foundation wants to send an impulse to civil society, politics, the courts and administration to change decisions in child protection. It is named after the tragic case of 3-year-old Yagmur, whose biological mother abused her so severely that the girl from Hamburg died on December 18, 2013. Not much has changed in child protection in recent decades, as parental rights still take precedence over children's rights. In order to better protect children from the threat of violence and neglect in the future, founder Michael Lezius established the Yagmur Memorial Foundation in 2016, which has since awarded the Yagmur Memorial Prize “Civil Courage Prize for Child Protection” every year on the anniversary of the girl's death.
