Schiwago Film GmbH was founded in Berlin in 2000 by producers Martin Lehwald and Michal Pokorny. Marcos Kantis joined the company as a partner in 2007, and he and Martin Lehwald have been managing partners since 2020.

With TV film series such as OSTFRIESLANDKRIMIS, FLUSS DES LEBENS and TATORT, Zhivago has established itself as a production company in the German media landscape, and with feature films such as MUXMÄUSCHENSTILL (D: Marcus Mittermeier), OH BOY (D: Jan-Ole Gerster), STYX (D: Wolfgang Fischer) and LARA (D: Jan-Ole Gerster), it has become an integral part of German cinema.

Current international co-productions such as INSIDE (D: Vassillis Katsoupis) with Willem Dafoe in the leading role and AMERICA (D: Ofir Raul Graizer) open up the global film production market for Schiwago.

A wide range of feature films and short films have now been produced for a broad cinema audience, many of which have won film awards. OH BOY (director: Jan-Ole Gerster), for example, won six Lolas at the German Film Awards in 2013. The most recent success was TOUBAB (D: Florian Dietrich), which won three prizes at the 30th Filmkunstfest MV (NDR Director's Award, Best Acting Performance, Audience Award), the Audience Award at the 37th Warsaw International Film Festival and other awards.
