IGW - Internationale Grüne Woche
The Green Week (also known as the International Green Week, in short IGW) is a trade fair in Berlin at which companies from the global agricultural and food industry present their products. It is regarded as the most important international trade fair for the food industry, agriculture and horticulture and is aimed at both trade visitors and the general public. The trade fair traditionally takes place in January in the exhibition halls under the radio tower.
The organizer of the Green Week is Messe Berlin, the conceptual sponsors are the German Farmers' Association (DBV) and the Federation of German Food and Drink Industries (BVE).
Green Week 2024 took place from January 19 to 28, 2024 with around 275,000 visitors and around 1400 exhibitors from 60 countries.
The first Green Week (at that time not yet with the addition “International”) took place from February 20 to 28, 1926. The trade fair owes its name to the forestry and agricultural visitors who were often dressed in green loden coats at the time.
Since 2008, the “Global Forum for Food and Agriculture” has been held annually in Berlin at around the same time as the Green Week and, since 2009, the political highlight has been an international summit of agriculture ministers at the Federal Foreign Office. (Source: Wikipedia)
